Working out of musical director PH Castanheira's newly built studio in Orlando, Florida, Dan & The Underdogs are currently putting the finishing touches to their second album "Soul Provider". With a live session recording at the world renowned Castle studio in Nashville scheduled for November, the group looks to the year ahead with great anticipation, actively planning for the launch of their new CD in the USA.
After a year preparing new material, the band returned to the studio to start work on their second album, "Soul Provider". Produced by band members Ricardo Marins and PH Castanheira, the group continued in the same vein as their first album, recording a CD full of melodic rock songs, infused with layers of blues, pop and soul music. Recorded at studios in Rio de Janeiro and Niteroi, the CD was once again mixed by Walter Costa and includes special guest appearances from Sergio Melo and Heitor Lima on drums.
After completing a successful tour promoting "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds", singer Dan Torres returns to the stage with "Dan & The Underdogs" as they perform in Niteroi, hometown of guitarist Ricardo Marins. With guest musician Marcos Kinder on drums, the band play songs from their debut album including "Believer", "Tell Me Why" and "The Winter Of My Soul", the group's very first composition.
The band hit the road and travel North to the city of Macapa, situated on the northern channel of the Amazon river and known as "the capital of the middle of the world" as the equator runs through the middle of the city. Invited to perform at the beautiful theatre "Teatro das Bacabeiras", the group to continue to prove their quality playing live, with their version of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" and songs from their album like "She Paints The World" and "The Right Side".
Frontman for "Dan & The Underdogs", English singer Dan Torres moved to Brazil in 2003 and quickly established himself as one of the country's leading recording artists. With a long of list of studio recordings for television under his belt, the highlight was surely being invited to record Beatles classic song "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" as the opening theme song for prime time tele-novela "Imperio". The famous soap opera aired on Brazilian TV between 2014 and 2015 and was a hit with audiences, helping to earn the singer an award for Best Song.
On the 13th of December 2014, "Dan & The Underdogs" performed their first live show at legendary music venue Circo Voador in Rio de Janeiro. As part of the line up for music festival Circo Rock they performed tracks from their debut album for the very first time alongside guest drummer Heitor Lima. Also including reworked classics like "Crazy" by Seal and Prince's hit song "Kiss", the show was recorded live in high definition by director Beto Braga and his team and is now available on the bend's official YouTube channel.
"Dan & The Underdogs" released their self-titled album on November 3rd 2014. Recorded in their native city Rio de Janeiro and produced by band member PH Castanheira, the album was mixed by legendary Brazilian sound engineer Walter Costa. Renowned for his work with some of the country's top recording artists over the last 30 years and a Latin Grammy award winner, he elevated the level of the band's sound to the highest standard and set the tone for their future recordings.
In 2014, British vocalist Dan Torres teamed up with Brazilian musicians and producers PH Castanheira, Ricardo Marins and Sergio Melo to work on new material in the recording studio. As the long time friends collaborated on their compositions the chemistry was instant and the quartet realized that this was a project worth pursuing. They set to work on writing and arranging 10 new tracks and within just a few months the band was born and the new album began to take shape.
